M365 Changelog: MarkAsRead Volume Drop

MC348259 – To improve the data quality of MarkAsRead Microsoft made some changes to how reads are counted. Previously, reads were counted multiple times and with this change reads are counted when an item’s status changes from Unread to Read. This change was rolled out late last year and Microsoft apologizes for not communicating about it sooner.

How this will affect your organization:

As a result of this change you may have noticed a drop in the volume for MarkAsRead. This is expected as reads are now only counted when an item’s status changes from Unread to Read.
